Can I get a refund after cancelling?

Upwork's official policy does not provide refunds for membership fees, including prorated refunds for annual plans cancelled mid-year. However, if you were charged unexpectedly due to a missed cancellation, contacting Upwork support immediately sometimes results in a one-time goodwill refund.

What do I lose when I downgrade from Freelancer Plus to Basic?

You lose: 90 monthly Connects (the Plus top-up), visibility into competitor bids on job listings, Uma AI tools full access, the 0% fee on Direct Contracts (reverts to 5% on all Direct Contracts including existing ones from the next cycle), and the ability to keep your profile visible when set as unavailable.

Can I reactivate Freelancer Plus after cancelling?

Yes. You can re-subscribe to Freelancer Plus at any time from the same Memberships & Connects settings page. Your new billing cycle starts from the re-subscription date.

What happens to my Connects when I downgrade?

Any Connects you have already purchased or accumulated remain in your balance. However, the rollover cap drops to 140 Connects on Freelancer Basic (versus a higher cap on Plus), so any excess Connects above 140 may be lost at your next cycle. You will no longer receive the 90 free monthly Connects that come with Plus.

How do I cancel if I subscribed through the iPhone app?

If you subscribed via the iOS Upwork app, you must cancel through Apple, not through upwork.com. Go to iPhone Settings > tap your name > Subscriptions > Upwork > Cancel Subscription. Trying to cancel on the website will show an error.

Log in to Upwork

Go to upwork.com and sign in to your account.

Open Membership Settings

Click your profile picture or avatar in the top-right corner, then select 'Settings' from the dropdown menu.

Navigate to Memberships & Connects

In the left sidebar of Settings, click 'Memberships & Connects' to view your current plan.

Initiate Plan Change

Click 'Change Plan' next to your current Freelancer Plus membership.

Select Freelancer Basic

On the plan selection screen, click 'Switch to Basic' under the Freelancer Basic option.

Confirm the Downgrade

Review the summary of what you will lose (90 monthly Connects, competitor bid visibility, 0% Direct Contract fee) and confirm the downgrade. Your Plus membership remains active until the end of the current billing cycle.
