Can I access my site after cancelling?

Yes. Your site stays online and fully functional until the end of your current billing cycle. After that date, your site and account are permanently deleted. If you need the site taken offline immediately, email support@ghost.org.

Will I get a refund after cancelling?

No. Ghost explicitly does not offer refunds per their Terms of Service. Your subscription simply will not renew, and you retain access through the already-paid period.

How do I save my content before the site is deleted?

Use Settings → Labs → Export your content in Ghost Admin for a JSON export of posts, tags, and settings. For a complete archive that includes uploaded images and your custom theme files, contact support@ghost.org before cancelling.

Can I reactivate my Ghost(Pro) account after cancelling?

You can sign up for a new Ghost(Pro) account at any time, but your original site data will have been deleted at the end of the billing cycle. Reactivation restores access to Ghost(Pro) hosting, not your previous site content — hence the importance of exporting before cancelling.

Can I pause my subscription instead of cancelling?

No. Ghost(Pro) has no pause or hold option. The only way to stop payments is to cancel the account entirely. Your site requires an active subscription to stay online.

Can I cancel if I'm not the owner of the Ghost site?

No. Only the owner user account can access the billing section and initiate cancellation. If you are a staff member or contributor, you will need to ask the site owner to cancel.

Back up your site content

Before cancelling, go to Settings → Labs in Ghost Admin and click Export your content to download a JSON backup of your posts, tags, staff users, and settings. For a full archive including images and themes, email support@ghost.org and request a complete publication archive before proceeding.

Log in to Ghost Admin as the owner

Go to your Ghost Admin URL (e.g. yoursite.ghost.io/ghost/) and sign in using the site owner account. Only the owner user has access to billing — staff or contributor accounts cannot cancel the subscription.

Open the Ghost(Pro) Billing section

In the Ghost Admin sidebar, click on Ghost(Pro) to expand the section, then select Billing. This opens the billing management page showing your current plan, next renewal date, and payment details.

Click 'Cancel account'

Scroll to the lower-left corner of the Billing page and click the red Cancel account link. This is the only way to stop payments — there is no option to pause or downgrade; cancellation removes the entire account.

Confirm the cancellation

Follow the on-screen confirmation prompts to finalise the cancellation. Ghost will confirm that your site and account will remain active until the end of your current billing period, after which they will be permanently deleted.
