Are there cancellation fees?

Oyster charges no explicit cancellation fee. However, you are liable for Transition Costs — severance pay, statutory notice-period pay, and unused vacation pay as required by local employment law in each employee's country. These costs vary widely and can be substantial.

Can I still access my data after canceling?

Yes. Oyster provides read-only platform access to view and download your data until December 31 of the year following your termination date. For example, canceling in 2026 gives you data access through December 31, 2027. After that, Oyster securely destroys your personal data.

Only if you request it in writing within 30 days of your initial contract date, with stated reasons for dissatisfaction. After that 30-day window, no general refund policy applies. Any unused service deposit is returned 30 days after all termination matters are fully resolved.

How long does the cancellation process take?

A minimum of 30 days from written notice. In practice it can take significantly longer — weeks to months — depending on the statutory notice and severance requirements in each employee's country (e.g., Germany, France, and India have lengthy requirements).

What happens to my employees when I cancel?

Your employees are not automatically terminated. You must notify Oyster of each Team Member's termination (via the platform or by email), after which Oyster handles the legally compliant offboarding process per each country's employment law.

Can I reactivate my account after canceling?

Reactivation is not addressed in Oyster's public terms. You would need to negotiate and sign a new Service Agreement with Oyster to resume using the platform.

Prepare written cancellation notice

Draft a written notice stating your intent to terminate your Oyster HR Service Agreement(s). Specify which service agreement(s) you are terminating. No specific format is required beyond it being in writing.

Send your written cancellation notice to Legal@OysterHR.com. This is the officially documented termination channel per Oyster's Terms of Use. Alternatively, contact your dedicated Account Manager or Customer Success Manager if you are on a Scale or annual plan.

Log in at app.oysterhr.com. From the main navigation, click 'Support Center'. On the Help Center page, click 'Submit a request' in the top-right corner and describe your cancellation request.

Oyster initiates offboarding

After receiving your notice, Oyster begins the formal termination process for each Team Member on your account per local employment law. Services continue through the actual termination date, which is at least 30 days from your written notice.

Resolve outstanding invoices and transition costs

Pay any remaining invoices, severance pay, notice-period pay, and unused vacation pay as required by local law in each employee's country. These Transition Costs vary significantly by country and can take weeks to months to fully resolve.

Deposit returned

Any unused service deposit is returned to you 30 days after all termination matters are fully resolved and outstanding balances are cleared.
