What happens to my data when I cancel?

For full account/organization cancellation, access ceases immediately per New Relic's terms with no documented grace period. Export any dashboards or alert configurations via NerdGraph API before cancelling. If you downgrade to the free tier, you retain access to data already ingested.

Can I cancel an annual or commitment-based plan early?

Not through self-serve. Annual and volume commitment plans are contractually non-cancelable — you remain liable for the remaining balance. Contact your account representative or email billing@newrelic.com to discuss options. Expect penalties for early termination.

Can I reactivate my account after cancelling?

Cancelled accounts remain visible under Administration → Access Management → Cancelled accounts. The account structure is preserved, but there is no self-serve reactivation — you would need to contact New Relic directly.

New Relic's free tier is perpetual ("forever free"), not a time-limited trial. It includes 100 GB/month data ingest, 1 full platform user, and access to most core features. Downgrading to free is a valid long-term option.

What if I just stop sending data instead of formally cancelling?

For pay-as-you-go plans, charges are based on data ingest volume and the number of full platform users. Stopping data ingestion and downgrading users to the free "basic" type will reduce your bill to zero without going through the formal cancellation flow — this is a common approach in the community.

Log in to New Relic

Go to one.newrelic.com and sign in to your account.

Open account menu

Click your name or avatar in the bottom-left corner of the screen to open the account menu.

Go to Manage your plan

Select "Manage your plan" from the dropdown menu.

Open Plans and pricing

Click "Plans and pricing" to view the pricing tier comparison table.

Reveal the downgrade button

Find the Free tier column in the pricing table. Hover over the "Downgrade to free" area — the clickable button only appears on hover.

Complete the cancellation form

In the popup window that appears, scroll to the bottom. Enter a reason for downgrading in the text field, then check the checkbox confirming you agree to the terms of service.

Submit the request

Click the "Submit" button to complete the downgrade to the free tier. Your paid plan is cancelled immediately.
