Can I keep using my service until the end of the billing month after cancellation?

No. Mobile voice and data service (including sp-mode internet) stops immediately upon cancellation. However, you are still billed the full monthly charge for the cancellation month. There are no prorated refunds for unused days.

Will I get a refund after cancelling?

Docomo does not offer prorated refunds. You will be charged for the full billing month in which you cancel. Any remaining device installment payments (端末代金) continue to be billed separately even after your service is cancelled, until the device is paid off.

What happens to my d Points when I cancel?

If your d Points are tied only to your mobile phone subscription and you have not created a standalone d Account, your points will be forfeited. To keep them, create a d Account (dアカウント) at id.smt.docomo.ne.jp before cancelling. With a d Account, you can continue using d POINT CLUB as a non-mobile member.

Can I reactivate my Docomo contract after cancellation?

You can sign up for a new Docomo contract after cancellation, but your original phone number cannot be recovered unless you performed an MNP (Mobile Number Portability) transfer. Reactivation is treated as a brand-new contract with no restoration of prior account history.

Is there a cancellation fee?

For most plans, there is no cancellation fee. A ¥1,100 (tax included) fee applies only to contracts signed on or after March 1, 2025, that are cancelled within one year with zero usage activity. Older pre-2022 plans may still have a Basic Course early termination charge of ¥660 × remaining months if on a two-year commitment plan.

Can I cancel online if I am outside Japan?

Online cancellation via the Docomo Online Procedures portal is technically accessible outside Japan, but the Passkey or SMS authentication may fail without a working Docomo SIM. In those cases, you must either visit a Docomo Shop in Japan or call the Docomo Information Center at +81-3-6718-6600 (international, 9 AM–8 PM JST).

Set up d Account (if not done)

Before cancelling, ensure you have a d Account (dアカウント) registered. Go to https://id.smt.docomo.ne.jp/ and create or verify your d Account. You will need this to log in online. Also check that you have set up Passkey (パスキー) authentication, as it is required for the online cancellation portal.

Access Docomo Online Procedures portal

Go to https://www.docomo.ne.jp/support/cancel/ on a PC or smartphone. Click the button labeled 'ドコモオンライン手続き' (Docomo Online Procedures). The portal is available 24 hours except Tuesdays 10:30 PM – 7:00 AM JST for maintenance.

Log in with d Account

On the login screen, enter your d Account ID and password. If accessing from your Docomo SIM device, select 'ご自身でdアカウントを入力してログイン' (Enter your d Account manually). Complete Passkey or SMS two-factor authentication when prompted.

Navigate to cancellation procedure

After logging in, select '各種手続き' (Various Procedures) from the bottom navigation menu. Scroll down and find '解約' (Cancellation) or 'My docomoトップ' → '契約内容の確認・変更' (Check/Change Contract Details) and locate the cancellation option.

Select contract and confirm cancellation details

Choose the phone number or contract you wish to cancel. Review the displayed information including remaining installment payments, billing through the end of the current month, and any applicable fees. A ¥1,100 (tax included) contract termination charge applies only to contracts started on or after March 1, 2025 that are cancelled within one year with no usage activity.

Handle d Points and linked services

The portal will warn you that cancelling your mobile subscription may affect your d POINT CLUB membership and accumulated d Points. If you want to keep your points, ensure your d Account is fully set up as a standalone account before proceeding. Click '確認' (Confirm) to acknowledge.

Submit final cancellation confirmation

Review the final cancellation summary screen showing the effective cancellation date and final billing details. Click '解約する' (Cancel Contract) or '手続きを完了する' (Complete Procedure) to finalize. You will receive an email confirmation within approximately one hour.
