Can I still use my internet connection after submitting the cancellation?

Yes. Your DSL connection remains fully active until the official contract end date. You only lose access after the termination date has passed.

Will I get a refund if I cancel before the billing period ends?

1&1 does not typically issue prorated refunds for the remaining days in a billing month after the contract end date. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the minimum term or the end of the notice period (1 month), so no early-termination fee applies if you cancel at the right time.

Do I need to return the router?

Only if you rented the router. Routers provided as part of a 24-month contract are generally considered purchased after the contract term and do not need to be returned. If in doubt, check your original contract documents or contact 1&1 support — they will notify you with return instructions after cancellation if the device needs to come back.

What happens to my 1&1 email address after cancellation?

Your @1und1.de or @web.de email address will remain temporarily accessible after the contract ends so you can save important messages, but you will not be able to change the password. The address is permanently deleted once the grace period expires, so export or forward any important emails before your contract ends.

Can I reactivate my 1&1 DSL contract after cancelling?

Yes, you can sign up for a new 1&1 contract at any time after cancellation, but it will be treated as a new subscription (new minimum term, potentially different pricing). There is no formal 'reactivation' of a cancelled contract.

What is the cancellation notice period?

The standard notice period is 1 month before the end of your minimum contract term (usually 24 months). If you miss the deadline, the contract automatically renews — after renewal you can cancel again with 1 month's notice at any time. Flex-tariff customers can cancel month-to-month after the initial 3-month minimum.

Log in to the Control-Center

Go to control-center.1und1.de and sign in with your 1&1 customer number (Kundennummer) and password.

Open 'Ihre Verträge' (Your Contracts)

After logging in, click on 'Ihre Verträge' in the main navigation to see a list of all your active contracts.

Select your DSL contract

Find your DSL/broadband contract in the list and click on it to open the contract detail view.

Click 'Vertrag kündigen' (Cancel Contract)

Scroll down within the contract details and click the 'Vertrag kündigen' button to start the cancellation process.

Submit cancellation notice via 'Hier Kündigung vormerken'

Review your contract end-date information, then click 'Hier Kündigung vormerken' (Note cancellation here). Select your cancellation reason from the dropdown and confirm your desired termination date (earliest possible or a specific date).

Save your case number from confirmation email

After submitting, 1&1 sends a confirmation email containing a case number (Vorgangsnummer). Save this number — you will need it if 1&1 contacts you to verify the cancellation by phone.

Watch for phone confirmation attempt

1&1 may contact you within 7 days requesting verbal confirmation via phone at 0721 96 00. This requirement was ruled unlawful by the OLG Koblenz (September 2024) — your written/online cancellation is legally valid without a phone call. You may also proactively send a written cancellation to kuendigung@1und1.de or by post to 1&1 Telecom GmbH, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur as backup confirmation.
