Will I get a refund if I cancel mid-cycle?

No. Papertrail does not issue refunds or billing credits for unused service when cancelling or downgrading. Your access continues until the end of the paid period.

Can I still access my logs after the subscription ends?

No. Access to your log data is restricted once your subscription expires. You must export all data before your final day of service.

How much notice do I need to give before cancelling?

At least 60 days before the end of your current subscription term or renewal date, as required by Papertrail's Terms and Conditions. Missing this window results in being charged for another full billing cycle.

Can I reactivate my account after cancelling?

Yes. Contact support@papertrail.io to reactivate your account. Previously exported data can be re-imported if you return to the service.

Who in my organization can initiate a cancellation?

Only users with the 'Change plans and payment' permission — typically account Owners or Administrators.

Is there a free plan I can downgrade to instead of fully cancelling?

Papertrail offers a free tier (50 MB/day, 48-hour log search), but downgrading from a paid plan still requires contacting support rather than a self-serve action in the dashboard.

Export your log data

Before cancelling, export all account data from the Papertrail dashboard. Log access is cut off once the subscription ends — archives are downloadable as text files from Amazon S3.

Verify you have the right permissions

Confirm you are an account Owner or Administrator. Only users with the 'Change plans and payment' permission can manage billing and initiate cancellations.

Check your renewal date

Note your subscription renewal date. Papertrail requires at least 60 days' written notice before the end of your current subscription term — missing this window means you'll be charged for another full cycle.

Request cancellation in writing

In your message, state your account name and explicitly request cancellation at the end of your current subscription period. No self-serve cancel button exists in the dashboard.

Receive confirmation

Papertrail support will confirm and schedule your subscription to terminate at the end of the billing period. There is no immediate mid-cycle cancellation.

Optional: Deactivate individual sub-accounts

If you manage multiple sub-accounts, deactivate each one separately: click the Settings cog (bottom left of the UI) > click 'Deactivate account' > click 'Continue with deactivation' > type YES in the confirmation box > click 'Deactivate now'.
