Can I access my account after canceling?

No. Cancellation takes effect immediately and your account becomes inaccessible right away. However, you can contact Basecamp support within 30 days to regain access before permanent deletion occurs.

Will I get a refund for unused time?

Basecamp does not automatically prorate unused subscription time. However, they invite customers to contact their support team for 'a fair refund' if circumstances warrant consideration.

How long is my data kept after cancellation?

Your data is permanently deleted from Basecamp's servers 30 days after cancellation. Backups are fully deleted within 60 days. Recovery is impossible after permanent deletion, so export your data before canceling.

Can I reactivate my account after canceling?

Yes, but only within the 30-day window before permanent data deletion. Contact Basecamp support to restore access during that period.

Who can cancel the Basecamp account?

Only the Account Owner or a designated Billing Liaison can cancel the account. If the account owner is unavailable, you must follow Basecamp's account ownership transfer process first.

What happens if I don't cancel and just stop paying?

If billing fails, Basecamp will freeze the account. Frozen accounts are automatically canceled after 180 days of billing failure with advance notice given.

Export your data first

Before canceling, go to Adminland and export your data. Click 'Export data' and wait for the download to finish completely before proceeding — exports will not complete after cancellation.

Go to Adminland

From the Basecamp Home page, click the 'Adminland' link at the top right of the page, located beneath your profile avatar. Only the Account Owner or a Billing Liaison can perform this action.

Scroll to Owner Actions

In Adminland, scroll down to the 'Owner Actions' section near the bottom of the page.

Click 'Cancel this account'

At the bottom of the Owner Actions section, click the 'Cancel this account' button to initiate the cancellation process.

Confirm cancellation

Review the confirmation page that appears and confirm your decision to cancel. Cancellation takes effect immediately — your account will become inaccessible right away and you will not be charged again.
