What happens to my ISA if I downgrade from Freetrade Plus?

If you hold a Stocks & Shares ISA with Freetrade Plus, downgrading means your ISA wrapper will close. Your investments won't be sold, but they'll move to a General Investment Account (GIA), losing the tax-free ISA status. Future gains and dividends will then be subject to tax.

Are there fees for cancelling Freetrade Plus?

There's no cancellation fee for downgrading from Freetrade Plus to Standard. You'll simply lose Plus features at the end of your current billing period. The Standard (free) tier still allows commission-free investing.

How long does it take to downgrade or close a Freetrade account?

Downgrading from Plus takes effect at the end of your billing cycle, typically within 1–30 days. If you want to fully close your account, you'll need to sell all investments and withdraw funds first, which can take 3–10 business days.

Open the Freetrade App

Open the Freetrade app on your mobile device and log in.

Go to Account

Tap your profile icon or 'Account' in the bottom navigation bar.

Open Subscription Settings

Tap 'Subscription' or 'Freetrade Plus' to view your current plan.

Downgrade to Standard

Select 'Downgrade to Standard' or 'Cancel Plus'. Review the warning that your ISA wrapper investments will move to a General Investment Account (GIA) if you're using an ISA.

Confirm Downgrade

Confirm the downgrade. Your Plus subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period, after which you'll be on the free Standard plan.
