Is Google Cloud Run a subscription? What am I actually cancelling?

Google Cloud Run is a pay-as-you-go service with no monthly subscription fee. You are billed only for the CPU, memory, and requests used while your services are running. 'Cancelling' means deleting your Cloud Run services (and optionally closing your billing account) so no further charges accrue.

Will I get a refund after deleting my Cloud Run services?

No. Google Cloud does not issue refunds for unused time or accidental usage. You will receive a final invoice for all usage accrued up to the moment of deletion. If you had a committed use contract (1-year or 3-year), you remain liable for the remaining balance even after closing your account.

What happens to my data after I delete a Cloud Run service?

Deleting a Cloud Run service permanently removes all its revisions and routing configuration. Container images stored in Artifact Registry are NOT automatically deleted — you must delete those separately. Any data in connected services (Cloud SQL, Firestore, Cloud Storage, etc.) is not affected by deleting the Cloud Run service itself.

Can I reactivate a deleted Cloud Run service?

No — deleting a Cloud Run service is permanent and irreversible. You would need to redeploy from your container image. If you only want to pause usage temporarily, use 'Manual scaling' set to 0 instances instead of deleting, which keeps the service configuration intact but stops all traffic and billing.

How long does it take for billing to stop after deleting services?

Billing stops immediately once the service is deleted. However, your next invoice will include all charges up to the deletion time. Cloud Run charges are calculated per-second for CPU/memory and per-request, so deletion stops the meter instantly.

What if I have services in multiple projects?

You must delete Cloud Run services in each Google Cloud project separately. The Cloud Run console is scoped to one project at a time — use the project selector dropdown at the top of the console to switch between projects. Alternatively, close the billing account to stop charges across all linked projects at once.

Open the Cloud Run console

Go to https://console.cloud.google.com/run in your browser. Make sure you are signed in to the correct Google account and have the correct project selected in the top project selector dropdown.

Select services to delete

On the Cloud Run Services list page, check the checkbox next to each service you want to stop. You can select multiple services at once using the checkboxes on the left side of each row.

Click DELETE

With services selected, click the 'DELETE' button that appears in the toolbar at the top of the services list. A confirmation dialog will appear warning that 'Deleting a service deletes all resources related to this service, including all revisions.'

Confirm deletion

In the confirmation dialog, type the service name or click 'DELETE' to confirm. The deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Repeat for each project if you have Cloud Run services in multiple Google Cloud projects.

Disable the Cloud Run API (optional)

To fully prevent any future Cloud Run charges, go to https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/library/run.googleapis.com, click 'DISABLE API', and confirm. This prevents Cloud Run from being used in the project at all.

Disable billing on the project (optional)

To stop all charges for the project entirely, go to https://console.cloud.google.com/billing/linkedaccount, click 'DISABLE BILLING', and confirm. This will shut down all Google Cloud services in the project.

Close Cloud Billing account (optional full cancellation)

If you want to fully close your Google Cloud account, go to https://console.cloud.google.com/billing, select your billing account, click 'Close billing account' at the top of the Account management page, then confirm. You will receive a final invoice for any outstanding usage.
