Can I get a refund after cancelling?

Refund eligibility depends on your billing type. For legacy credit-based accounts, Postmark refunds unused credits from your first purchase only, within 90 days of that purchase. For current plan-based billing (since December 2024), no refunds are provided. Your service remains active until the end of the current billing period before the account can be closed.

Can I reactivate my account after closing it?

No. Once an account is closed, all data is permanently deleted with no backup. There is no reactivation process. You would need to create a brand-new account from scratch. This is why Postmark strongly recommends downgrading to the free plan if there is any chance you might return.

What happens to my email logs and message history?

All message history is immediately deleted when you close your account. For active accounts, Postmark retains activity data for 45 days by default (extendable to 365 days with the paid Retention Add-on). Upon account closure, all retained data is wiped permanently.

What if I can't see the 'Close account' button?

The 'Close account' button is only visible to the Account Owner. If you don't see it, you are logged in as an Admin or Member role. Contact your Account Owner to perform the cancellation, or email support@postmarkapp.com if the original Account Owner is no longer available.

Is there a cheaper option than fully cancelling?

Yes. Postmark offers a free plan with 100 emails/month at no cost, designed for development and testing. Downgrading to this plan stops all charges while preserving your API tokens, webhooks, servers, and account settings. Both Account Owners and Admins can downgrade, unlike full cancellation which requires the Owner role.

Log in as Account Owner

Sign in to your Postmark account. Note: only the Account Owner role can close the account. If you don't have this role, contact the Account Owner or email support@postmarkapp.com.

Open Account menu

Click 'Account' in the top navigation bar to open the dropdown menu.

Go to Plans & Add-ons

Select 'Plans & Add-ons' from the dropdown menu.

Consider downgrading instead

Postmark prominently suggests downgrading to the free plan (100 emails/month) as an alternative. This preserves your API tokens, webhooks, servers, and account configuration with no monthly cost. If you want to keep your setup intact, select the free tier and confirm checkout instead of closing.

Click 'Close account'

Scroll to the bottom of the Plans & Add-ons page and click the 'Close account' button.

Enter your password

Enter your account password in the confirmation field to verify your identity.

Confirm closure

Click 'Close account' a second time to permanently close the account. Warning: all data (email history, sender signatures, servers, API tokens, webhooks, and billing info) is immediately and permanently deleted with no backup or grace period.
