1

Sign in to your account

Go to economist.com and click 'Sign in' in the top-right corner. Enter your email and password associated with your subscription.

2

Open My Account

After signing in, click your account icon or name in the top-right corner and select 'My account' from the dropdown menu. You can also navigate directly to myaccount.economist.com/s/my-account.

3

Go to Subscription details

On the My Account page, locate the 'Subscription' section and click 'Manage subscription' or 'Subscription details' to see your current plan.

4

Look for 'Cancel subscription' link

Scroll to the bottom of the subscription details page. The cancel option uses inverted/low-contrast styling intentionally — look for a small 'Cancel subscription' or 'End subscription' link, often in plain text rather than a button, at the bottom of the page.

5

Initiate Live Chat if no cancel button is visible

If the self-serve cancel option is not available (common for many account types), click the 'Chat with us' or 'Contact us' button to open the Live Chat window. Chat agents are available Monday–Friday, 8am–6pm ET. State clearly: 'I want to cancel my subscription.'

6

Decline retention offers

The chat agent will typically make 2–3 attempts to retain you — asking why you're cancelling, reminding you of benefits, and offering a discount (commonly 50–70% off renewal). Decline each offer and repeat your cancellation request.

7

Confirm cancellation and note end date

Once the agent confirms cancellation, ask for a cancellation confirmation number or email. Note the access end date — you retain access through the end of your current paid billing period. A confirmation email should arrive within minutes.
