Will I get a refund after cancelling?

No. Payload's Terms of Service state that all fees are non-cancellable, non-refundable, and non-recoupable. You will not receive a prorated refund for any unused portion of your billing period.

When does my access end after cancelling?

Your cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You keep full access to your project until that date.

What happens to my data after I cancel?

Payload does not publicly document a specific data retention timeline after project deletion. You should export all your data before deleting the project to avoid losing it.

Can I reactivate my subscription after cancelling?

Reactivation is not documented. Note that as of mid-2025, Payload CMS was acquired by Figma and new Payload Cloud sign-ups are paused — reactivation after deletion may not be possible. Contact support@payloadcms.com for clarification before cancelling if this is a concern.

Can I downgrade instead of cancelling?

You can downgrade to a lower paid plan (e.g., from Pro at $199/month to Standard at $35/month). Downgrading takes effect at the start of the next renewal period. There is no free Cloud tier — if you want to stop paying entirely, you would need to delete the project and migrate to the self-hosted open-source version.

Is Payload Cloud still available to new users?

No. Following the Figma acquisition in June 2025, new Payload Cloud sign-ups are currently paused while Figma builds a replacement offering. Existing customers retain access to their active subscriptions.

Go to app.payloadcms.com and sign in to your Payload Cloud account.

Select your project

From the dashboard, click on the specific project whose subscription you want to cancel.

Open project Settings

Inside the project, click the 'Settings' option in the project navigation menu.

Navigate to Plan

Within Settings, click 'Plan' to view your current subscription details.

Delete the project

Follow the on-screen instructions to delete the project. This is how cancellation is handled — there is no separate 'Cancel Subscription' button. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Confirm cancellation

Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period. You will retain access until that date. Export all your data before confirming deletion.
