Log in to the Instana/IBM account portal

Go to https://www.ibm.com/products/instana and log in with your IBM ID (or navigate directly to the Instana UI you were provisioned). Note your subscription type: direct IBM billing or AWS Marketplace — the cancellation path differs.

Check Account & Billing dashboard

Inside the Instana UI, navigate to the 'Account & Billing' dashboard (top-right user menu → 'Account & Billing'). Review your current plan, data ingest usage, and billing cycle end date before proceeding.

For AWS Marketplace subscribers: cancel via AWS Console

If you subscribed through AWS Marketplace, go to the AWS Console → 'AWS Marketplace' → 'Manage subscriptions' → find 'IBM Instana Observability' → click 'Actions' → 'Cancel subscription'. Confirm the cancellation in the dialog. AWS subscriptions have no end date and can be canceled at any time; no refund is issued for the current billing period.

For direct IBM subscribers: contact IBM Support

Direct IBM billing does not offer a self-service cancellation button. Open the IBM Cloud Support Center at https://cloud.ibm.com/unifiedsupport/supportcenter and use the live chat option (fastest), or call IBM Cloud Support at 1-866-325-0045 and select option 3 (Billing). Request that your Instana subscription be terminated at the end of the current contract period.

Submit a support case (alternative to chat/phone)

If chat/phone is unavailable, go to https://cloud.ibm.com/unifiedsupport/cases/form and open a new case. Set the Topic to 'Billing & Usage' and clearly state: 'I want to cancel my IBM Instana Observability subscription effective [date].' Include your account ID and subscription details.

Request written confirmation

Ask the support agent or via the case thread for a written confirmation of the cancellation date. Keep the case number for your records. IBM will typically confirm that no further charges will be applied after the contract end date.
