1

Check your contract status

Log in to My Virgin Media at my.virginmedia.com, go to 'My Account' and check your contract end date under 'My Package'. Alternatively, check your latest bill or original paperwork. If you are still within your minimum contract period (typically 18 months), early termination fees will apply — usually your monthly fee multiplied by the remaining months, or a percentage thereof.

2

Call Virgin Media on 0345 454 1111

Call 0345 454 1111 from any phone (or dial 150 free from a Virgin Media landline). This is the only primary cancellation method — there is no self-serve online cancellation option for standard accounts.

3

Navigate the phone menu to reach the retentions team

When the automated menu answers, press: 1 (for 'I'm an existing customer'), then 1 again (for 'Account and billing'), then 4 (for 'Thinking of leaving'). This routes you directly to the retentions team, who have authority to accept cancellations and offer discounts. Lines are open Mon–Fri 8am–9pm, Sat 8am–8pm, Sun 9am–6pm.

4

Decline retention offers and state your intent to cancel

The retentions agent will typically offer discounts of 30–40% off your monthly bill, a free upgrade, or a reduced-rate loyalty deal to persuade you to stay. Politely but firmly state: 'I'd like to proceed with the cancellation.' They may transfer you to another agent or put you on hold. Stay firm. Ask the agent to confirm the cancellation in writing via email.

5

Confirm 30-day notice period and disconnection date

Virgin Media requires 30 days' notice. The agent will set your disconnection date 30 days from the call. Ask for a cancellation reference number and request a confirmation email to the address on your account. Note the exact disconnection date.

6

Return Virgin Media equipment

After the call, Virgin Media will either arrange a collection from your home or post you a prepaid returns pack (at no cost to you). Equipment to return typically includes: the Hub/router, any TV 360 boxes, and remote controls. Equipment must be returned within 30 days of disconnection. Non-return fees apply if equipment is not sent back.

7

Pay your closing bill

You will receive a final bill covering all service costs and usage charges up to your disconnection date, plus any early termination fee if applicable. Pay this via your usual method (Direct Debit, My Virgin Media online account, or phone). If you were on Direct Debit, Virgin Media will take the final payment automatically.
