After cancelling you retain full access to your subscriber list, email archive, and email editing. The only thing you cannot do is send new emails. All your data and settings remain intact.

No. Buttondown preserves your subscriber list, email archives, and all account settings after cancellation. Nothing is deleted.

Can I reactivate my subscription after cancelling?

Yes. You can reactivate at any time by returning to the billing page at buttondown.com/settings/billing and choosing to resume your subscription.

Are there any refunds if I cancel mid-billing cycle?

Go to Settings → Danger Zone and click 'Delete your account'. This permanently removes all data from their servers. Export your data first if you need to keep it.

Your readers can cancel their paid subscriptions to your newsletter by clicking the 'Unsubscribe' link in any email you send them. Unsubscribing also stops any recurring payments they make to you.

Log in to Buttondown

Go to buttondown.com and sign in to your account with your email and password.

Open Billing Settings

Navigate to Settings → Billing, or go directly to buttondown.com/settings/billing.

Click the 'Actions' button

On the billing page, click the 'Actions' button located at the top-right corner of the page. A dropdown menu will appear.

Select 'Cancel your subscription'

From the dropdown, select 'Cancel your subscription'. Prior to February 2026 this option was labelled 'Pause your subscription' — it has since been renamed as part of Buttondown's simplified cancellation update.

Confirm cancellation

Follow the confirmation prompt to finalise the cancellation. Your subscription ends and billing stops immediately.
