What happens to my content after I cancel?

If you click 'Cancel Subscription', your project reverts to the free tier and your data is preserved. If you click 'Delete Project', all content is permanently and immediately deleted from ReadMe's servers and cannot be recovered. Export your data before deleting.

Will I get a refund if I cancel mid-billing period?

Yes, ReadMe issues a prorated refund for unused days remaining in your billing period. They state they will process refunds fairly based on your usage.

Can a team admin cancel the subscription?

No. Only the Project Owner can cancel a subscription or delete a project. Admin and other team roles do not have this permission. If you don't know who the owner is, contact ReadMe support via the Intercom chat widget (bottom-right corner of any ReadMe page).

Can I reactivate after cancelling?

Yes. Since cancelling reverts your project to the free tier (not deletion), you can upgrade to a paid plan again at any time from Project Settings.

Log in to ReadMe

Go to readme.com and log in with your account credentials. You must be logged in as the Project Owner — only the owner can cancel a subscription.

Open Project Settings

From your project dashboard, click the gear icon or navigate to 'Project Settings' for the project whose subscription you want to cancel.

Go to General Settings

Inside Project Settings, click on 'General Settings' in the left navigation menu.

Scroll to Project Management

Scroll to the bottom of the General Settings page to find the 'Project Management' section.

Click 'Cancel Subscription'

Click the 'Cancel Subscription' button. This immediately stops billing and reverts your project to the free tier. Your project data is preserved. Alternatively, click the red 'Delete Project' button if you want to permanently delete the project and all its data.
