When does my service actually stop after I cancel?

Cancellations take effect at the start of the next billing period (the 1st of the month). Your notice must be received by the 26th of the month to apply to that same month-end. Notices received after the 26th roll over to the following month-end.

Will I get a refund for unused days after cancellation?

Vodafone Iceland (now Sýn) bills monthly, and cancellation takes effect at the end of a billing period, so you generally use the service through the last paid day. Partial-month refunds are not standard unless there was a service fault.

Can I keep my phone number when I cancel?

Yes. Number portability (númeraflutningur) is available in Iceland. If you are switching to a new provider, initiating a number port with the new carrier typically triggers the cancellation automatically.

What happens if I cancel while still in a binding contract?

You will owe all remaining monthly fees for the rest of the contract term. Icelandic law caps binding periods at a maximum of 6 months. You may downgrade (but not upgrade) your plan during a binding period.

Is Vodafone Iceland still operating under that brand?

No. As of June 2025, Vodafone Iceland was fully rebranded to Sýn (syn.is). All vodafone.is URLs redirect to syn.is, and all support and account management now operates under the Sýn brand.

Can I cancel using the online portal without calling?

You can submit a written cancellation request via the contact form at syn.is/hafa-samband or via the live chat at syn.is/adstod. The Mínar síður self-service portal (minar.syn.is) may also offer cancellation, but full self-service cancellation is not explicitly confirmed in public documentation.

Log in to Mínar síður (self-service portal)

Go to https://minar.syn.is/ and log in using your Icelandic electronic ID (rafræn skilríki / kennitala). This is the self-service portal formerly operated under Vodafone Iceland, now rebranded as Sýn.

Attempt self-service or switch to contact form

Check your subscription settings in Mínar síður. If a cancellation option is not available directly, go to https://syn.is/hafa-samband (the official contact page) to submit a written cancellation request.

Fill in the contact form with your cancellation request

On the 'Hafa samband' (Contact Us) page, select the 'Einstaklingar' (Individuals) tab. Enter your kennitala (national ID), email, phone number, and type your cancellation request in the message field. State clearly you want to 'segja upp farsímaþjónustu' (cancel mobile service).

Note the 26th-of-month deadline

Cancellation notice must be received by the 26th of the month to take effect at the end of that month. If received after the 26th, cancellation is pushed to the following month-end. The billing period resets on the 1st of each month.

Request written confirmation

Ask for a confirmation email or reference number for your cancellation. Verify the exact cancellation date (effective date should be the 1st of the following billing month).
