Will I receive a refund for unused prepaid credits?

Starburst Galaxy uses a consumption-based credit model. Refunds for unused prepaid credits are not explicitly guaranteed and depend on your contract terms. Enterprise and Mission-Critical plan customers on annual contracts should contact their account manager to discuss any credit balance or early termination terms before canceling.

Can I reactivate my account after canceling?

Yes, you can sign up for a new Starburst Galaxy account at galaxy.starburst.io at any time. However, previous configurations, clusters, and data catalogs from a closed account are not restored — you would start fresh. Contact sales if you wish to reinstate an enterprise contract.

What happens to my data when I cancel?

Starburst Galaxy is a query engine layer and does not store your underlying data — your data remains in your own cloud storage (S3, GCS, ADLS, etc.). However, any Starburst-managed metadata, saved queries, cluster configurations, and access control policies within the Galaxy platform will be deleted upon account closure.

Can I cancel without contacting support — is there a self-service option?

As of 2026, Starburst Galaxy does not offer a self-service ‘Cancel Account’ button in the UI. Account closure must be initiated through the 24/7 in-app support chat (lower-right corner of galaxy.starburst.io) or by submitting a ticket via the support portal at starburstdata.my.site.com/s/login/.

How do I stop being charged immediately while I wait for cancellation?

Stop all running clusters immediately via the Clusters page — you are only charged for active compute usage. With all clusters stopped, no new credits are consumed. You can then proceed with the formal account closure request at your convenience.

Log in to Starburst Galaxy

Go to galaxy.starburst.io and sign in with your credentials. Ensure you are logged in as an account Admin, as only Admin users can manage billing and initiate account closure.

Stop all running clusters

In the left navigation, click 'Clusters'. For each running cluster, click the three-dot menu (⋮) next to it and select 'Stop cluster' to halt any ongoing compute charges before proceeding.

Review your billing balance

Click your account name or the gear icon in the top-right corner, then select 'Billing'. Review the current balance and any outstanding usage charges displayed in the billing header.

Open the in-app support chat

Click the chat bubble icon in the lower-right corner of the Starburst Galaxy interface to open the 24/7 live support chat. This is the primary channel for account closure requests.

Request account cancellation

In the support chat, state that you want to cancel your Starburst Galaxy subscription and close your account. Provide your account name and the email address associated with the account. The support agent will verify your identity.

Confirm cancellation with support

Follow the support agent’s instructions to confirm the cancellation. They may ask for a reason for leaving and may present alternative options (downgrading to Free plan, pausing usage). Confirm you want the account fully closed.

Check for confirmation email

After the support interaction, watch for a confirmation email from Starburst (from a @starburstdata.com address) confirming your account has been closed and billing has been stopped.
