Is Google Analytics a paid subscription?

Can I recover my account after deleting it?

Yes — Google provides a 35-day grace period after you move an account to the Trash Can. During this window you can restore it from the Trash. After 35 days all data, properties, and settings are permanently and irreversibly deleted.

What is the difference between deleting an account vs. a property?

Deleting the account removes everything under it — all properties and their historical data. Deleting a property removes only that property and its data streams while leaving other properties in the account intact. Both have the 35-day recovery window, except data stream deletion which is immediate and irreversible.

Will deleting Google Analytics affect my website?

Deleting your GA account stops data collection immediately, but your website will continue to function normally. You should remove the GA tracking code (gtag.js or Google Tag Manager tag) from your site to avoid unnecessary script loads and console errors.

What role do I need to delete a Google Analytics account?

You need the Administrator role at the account level to delete an entire account. The Editor role is sufficient to delete individual properties or data streams but not the top-level account.

Should I export my data before deleting?

Sign in to Google Analytics

Go to https://analytics.google.com and sign in with the Google account that has Administrator access to the account you want to delete.

Open the Admin panel

Click the gear icon labeled 'Admin' in the bottom-left corner of the dashboard to open the Admin settings panel.

Select the correct account

In the 'Account' column (leftmost), use the account dropdown to confirm you have the right account selected. Double-check before proceeding — deletion affects all properties under this account.

Open Account details

Under the Account column, click 'Account details' (in GA4) or 'Account Settings' (in older interfaces). This opens the account-level settings page.

Click 'Move to Trash Can'

Scroll to the bottom of the Account details page and click the 'Move to Trash Can' button. This initiates the deletion process for the entire account and all its properties.

Confirm deletion

A confirmation dialog will appear warning you about the consequences. Click 'Move Account to Trash Can' to confirm. The account enters a 35-day grace period before permanent deletion.
