How long does it take for the cancellation to take effect?

Telkom requires a mandatory 30-day notice period for all contract cancellations. Your service continues during this period and you will receive a final bill at the end of the following month. For third-party prepaid subscriptions cancelled via USSD *180#, cancellation is typically immediate.

Will I be charged after I cancel?

Yes. For contracts, you will be billed for the full 30-day notice period. If you are still within your contract term, you will also be charged the remaining contract value plus a R809 early termination fee. Out-of-contract cancellations only owe outstanding balances, no penalty.

Can I get a refund after cancelling?

Telkom does not typically offer refunds for the notice period or for prepaid data/subscriptions already activated. Any credit balance on your account should be reflected on your final statement. Disputed charges can be raised via the Telkom Community portal or by calling 081 180.

How do I cancel a Telkom contract online instead of USSD?

Log in at www.telkom.co.za, go to 'My Profile' → 'Manage My Accounts', select the account/service, click 'Cancel', fill in the cancellation form (upload a copy of your ID if prompted), accept the Terms and Conditions, and click 'Submit'. You will receive a reference number by email.

Can I reactivate my Telkom subscription after cancelling?

Prepaid subscriptions can be re-subscribed at any time via *180# or the MyTelkom app. Cancelled contracts cannot typically be reactivated on the same terms; you would need to take out a new contract, subject to current pricing and availability.

What happens to my phone number when I cancel?

If you cancel your Telkom contract, your number will be deactivated unless you port it to another network before the cancellation takes effect. Submit a porting request to your new network provider before the 30-day notice period expires to retain your number.

Dial USSD code *180#

Open your phone dialer and dial *180# to access the Telkom self-service menu. This works on any Telkom Mobile SIM card without needing internet access.

Select 'Telkom Plus' (option 5)

From the main USSD menu, select option 5 labeled 'Telkom Plus' to access subscription and add-on management.

Select 'Self-Service' (option 9)

Within the Telkom Plus menu, select option 9 for 'Telkom Self-Service' to manage your active subscriptions manually.

Select 'Active Services' (option 1)

Choose option 1 for 'Active Services' to see a list of all your currently active and pending subscriptions associated with your Telkom number.

Select the subscription to cancel

Scroll through the list of active subscriptions displayed and select the specific subscription you want to cancel by entering its corresponding number.

Confirm cancellation

Press 'Send' and when prompted to confirm, select 'Yes' (option 1) to confirm you want to cancel the selected subscription.

Receive confirmation SMS

You will receive a confirmation SMS from Telkom confirming the cancellation of the selected subscription. For contract cancellations, note that a 30-day notice period applies and you will receive a final bill at end of the following month.
