Can I keep using Twilio Flex after I cancel?

No. Closing your Twilio account is immediate and permanent. Access to the Console, Flex dashboard, phone numbers, and all configuration is lost the moment you confirm closure. There is no grace period.

Will I get a refund for unused prepaid balance?

Yes. If your account has a positive prepaid balance at the time of closure, Twilio automatically issues a full refund to your original payment method within approximately 10 business days. PayPal-only accounts must add a credit card on the Payments page before they can close and receive a refund.

Is there a cancellation fee for stopping a Flex subscription?

Twilio Flex has no documented early-termination or cancellation fee for self-serve accounts. You are billed for usage through the closure date. Per-hour plans charge only for hours already used; per-named-user ($150/seat/month) plans are billed through the end of the current month. Enterprise contracts may have contractual commitments — review your agreement or contact your account manager.

Can I reactivate my Twilio account after closing it?

No. A fully closed Twilio account is permanently deleted and cannot be reopened. You would need to create an entirely new account. If you just want to pause usage temporarily, consider the 'soft close' approach (release numbers, leave account open) rather than full closure.

What happens to my Flex data (recordings, transcripts, contacts) after cancellation?

All account data is permanently deleted upon account closure and cannot be recovered. Export any call recordings, transcripts, task router configurations, or other data you need before initiating closure.

I'm on the Flex free trial — do I need to do anything to avoid being charged?

The Flex free trial grants 5,000 active user hours that do not expire until you actively select a paid billing plan. You will not be charged automatically when trial hours run out. However, if you have added a payment method and selected a paid plan (per-hour or per-named-user), you must cancel or close the account to stop charges.

Sign in as Account Owner

Go to console.twilio.com and sign in. Only the account Owner role can close a Twilio account. If you are on an invoiced or enterprise plan, skip to step 6 — self-serve closure is not available for invoiced accounts.

Review your Flex plan and release phone numbers

In the left sidebar, navigate to Phone Numbers > Manage > Active Numbers. Click the trash/release icon next to each number to release it. Unreleased numbers continue to accrue monthly fees even after closing Flex.

Stop any remaining active subscriptions

Navigate to Billing > Subscriptions in the Console sidebar. Review any active add-ons or subscription line items tied to your Flex project and cancel each individually if options are present.

Open Account General Settings

In the top-right corner click your account name, then select Account from the dropdown. In the left menu go to Account Management > General Settings (direct URL: console.twilio.com/us1/account/manage-account/general-settings).

Click 'Close' and confirm deletion

Scroll to the very bottom of the General Settings page and click the 'Close' button. On the confirmation screen select 'DELETE ALL ACCOUNT DATA AND SETTINGS', then click Continue. Check each acknowledgment checkbox and click 'Close Account'. Your account is permanently closed immediately and any remaining prepaid balance is automatically refunded within 10 business days.

Invoiced/Enterprise accounts: contact Twilio Support

If your Twilio Flex account is on an invoiced billing arrangement, self-serve closure is not available. Open a support ticket from the Console (click the Help icon > Contact Support > Submit a Ticket) or reach Twilio Support via live chat from the Console.
