What happens to my data after I downgrade to Free?

Your data is not deleted, but private datasets are automatically converted to public. Team members with non-admin roles are demoted to viewers, and Growth-only features (AI Assist, Comments, Tasks, Scheduled Drafts) are disabled.

Will I get a refund after cancelling?

Yes. Sanity issues a prorated refund for the unused remainder of your current billing period, back to your original payment card. Expect it within 10 business days. Any usage-based overages already accrued are still charged.

Can I reactivate my project after archiving?

Yes. Archived projects can be reactivated at any time from manage.sanity.io. A new plan invoice is generated upon reactivation.

How do I permanently delete my data?

Go to manage.sanity.io → select your project → Settings → Danger zone → Delete. This is permanent and irreversible. Individual datasets can also be deleted via the Sanity CLI with 'sanity dataset delete'.

What if I can't find the billing or plan settings?

Only Organization Administrators or Billing Managers can change plans. If you are only a project-level admin, you may not have billing access. Contact support@sanity.io with your organization details to get assistance.

Do I need to cancel if I'm on a free trial?

No. Growth plan trials expire automatically. If you take no action, your account is automatically downgraded to Free — Sanity does not charge you unless you explicitly upgrade to a paid plan.

Go to the management dashboard

Navigate to https://manage.sanity.io and sign in to your Sanity account.

Select your project or organization

Click the 'Select project or organization' dropdown in the top-left corner and choose the project you want to cancel billing for.

Open the Plan tab

Click the 'Plan' tab in the project navigation to view your current subscription and available plans.

Downgrade to Free

Select the Free plan option to stop paying. This immediately cancels your paid subscription. A prorated refund for unused days in the current billing period will be issued to your original payment card within 10 business days.

(Optional) Archive the project

If you want to fully suspend the project and block all API access, go to 'Settings' → scroll to 'Danger zone' → click 'Archive' and confirm. Archiving preserves all data but stops all charges and blocks API/CDN access immediately.
