Can I cancel if I am moving to a new address?

Moving does not automatically waive cancellation fees. You must either transfer the Secom service to your new address or cancel the contract and pay any applicable early termination fees and equipment removal costs.

Will I still be charged after the equipment is removed?

No regular monthly fees are charged after the equipment removal date. However, a final bill covering the removal fee (¥10,000–¥20,000) and any prorated charges up to the removal date will appear on your next statement.

Is my ¥20,000 deposit refunded when I cancel?

Only if you cancel at the end of the full 5-year contract term with no early exit. For mid-contract cancellations, the deposit is forfeited and applied toward cancellation costs. Exception: contracts originally signed via door-to-door sales are entitled to a full deposit refund under Japanese consumer protection law regardless of timing.

What happens to my walls after sensor removal?

Secom provides small cover plates for the screw holes left by mounted sensors. The holes are small but visible. Many customers do additional cosmetic patching (e.g., diatomaceous earth repair kits or spackle) for a clean finish.

Can I cancel online without calling?

No fully self-service online cancellation exists. You can submit an initial inquiry via the contact form at secom.co.jp (selecting '契約内容の変更・解約'), but a phone follow-up from your local branch and written paperwork are still required to complete the cancellation.

How much notice do I need to give to avoid auto-renewal?

Written cancellation notice must be received by Secom at least 3 months before your contract expiration date. After the initial 5-year term, contracts auto-renew for 1-year periods. If you miss the 3-month window, you are committed to another full year of service.

Call Secom customer service

Call Secom's existing contract holder line at 0120-025-756 (available 9:00–18:00, closed year-end/New Year). State that you wish to cancel your home security contract (解約したい). Have your customer number (お客様番号) ready. Alternatively, submit a written inquiry via the contact form at secom.co.jp selecting '契約内容の変更・解約' (Contract change / Cancellation) as the topic.

Await callback from local branch

After your initial contact, a regional Secom branch office will call you back to confirm your desired contract end date and schedule the equipment removal appointment. This callback typically occurs within a few business days.

Submit written cancellation notice

Secom will mail you cancellation paperwork (解約書類). Complete and return it so that it arrives at least 3 months before your desired contract end date. Missing this 3-month window will trigger an automatic 1-year contract renewal.

Schedule and complete equipment removal

A technician visits your home to remove all Secom-owned hardware: the home controller, wireless adapter, door/window sensors, smoke detectors, and outdoor flash unit. The appointment takes approximately 1.5–2 hours depending on the number of devices installed.

Return Secom Life Card

On the day of equipment removal, hand your Secom 'Life Card' (ライフカード / security key card) directly to the attending Secom staff member. Do not mail it.

Receive final billing

Equipment removal fees (¥10,000–¥20,000 depending on number of devices) and any prorated monthly charges are billed on your next statement — nothing is collected on the removal day itself. If cancelling after completing the full 5-year contract term, your ¥20,000 deposit is refunded.
