Log in to dbt Cloud

Go to cloud.getdbt.com and log in with your account credentials. You must be the Account Owner to make billing changes — only members of the Owner user group can access subscription settings.

Open Account Settings

Click on your account name in the left-side navigation panel to expand the menu, then select 'Account Settings'.

Navigate to Billing

In the Account Settings page, locate the left sidebar and click 'Billing' under the Settings section. This opens your current plan, seat usage, and payment information.

Review your current plan and select a new plan

On the Billing page you will see your active plan (e.g. Starter at $100/user/month). To cancel a paid Starter plan, click 'Select plan' next to the free Developer tier. If you are on an Enterprise plan, there is no self-service option — click 'Contact Sales' in the Enterprise tab to open a chat with the dbt support team who will route your cancellation request to your account manager.

Adjust seat and project count if prompted

If your current number of developer seats or projects exceeds the limits of the plan you are downgrading to (Developer plan allows 1 seat and 1 project), dbt Cloud will prompt you to reduce your seat count and remove projects before the downgrade can proceed. Follow the on-screen instructions to remove users and projects as needed.

Confirm the plan change

After adjusting allocations, confirm the plan change by clicking 'Save'. For the free Developer plan, no payment information is required. Your paid subscription will end at the close of the current billing period and your account will revert to the Developer (free) tier.

Verify cancellation

After saving, the Billing page should reflect the Developer plan with $0/month. If your account is being fully closed rather than downgraded, dbt Cloud will display: 'Your dbt Cloud subscription was canceled. Choose a plan to restart your dbt Cloud subscription.' If you encounter any issues (e.g. the plan selector is unresponsive), contact support@getdbt.com directly.
