What happens to my money when I close my Chime account?

You must transfer or spend your remaining balance before closing your account. If a small balance remains after closure is initiated, Chime will mail a check to your address on file within 14 business days.

Will my direct deposit be affected?

Yes — once you close your Chime account, any direct deposits sent to your Chime routing and account numbers will be rejected and returned to the sender. Update your direct deposit information with your employer before closing the account.

Can I reopen my Chime account after closing it?

Chime does not allow you to reopen a previously closed account. You would need to apply for a new Chime account with a new email address, subject to Chime's approval.

Launch the Chime app on your smartphone and log in to your account.

Transfer your remaining balance

Before closing, transfer any remaining funds to an external bank account via the 'Transfer' option in the app, or use your Chime debit card to spend down the balance.

Go to Settings

Tap the gear icon or navigate to the 'Settings' section within the app.

Select Close Account

Scroll down to find the 'Close Account' option. Tap it and review the information about what account closure means for your Chime membership.

Confirm closure

Follow the prompts to confirm your decision. You will receive an email confirmation once your Chime account has been successfully closed.
