How much notice do I need to give to cancel my Telekom Fiber contract?

For standard 24-month MagentaZuhause fiber contracts you must submit your cancellation at least 1 month before the contract end date. If you miss this window the contract automatically extends by 12 months, but from that point on you can cancel any time with 1 month's notice to the end of the following month.

Will my internet still work after I submit the cancellation?

Yes. Your fiber connection continues to work normally until the confirmed cancellation date — typically the last day of the contract term. You will not be cut off early.

Can I cancel before my minimum contract term ends?

Early termination is only fee-free under specific extraordinary circumstances (Sonderkündigungsrecht): moving to an address where Telekom fiber is unavailable, permanent relocation abroad, moving into a household that already has a Telekom contract, death of the account holder, or entering a care facility. In these cases you must provide documentary evidence (e.g. deregistration certificate, care-home acceptance letter). Without a qualifying reason, you must pay out the remaining contract months.

Will I receive a refund for the unused portion of a prepaid billing period?

Telekom bills monthly in advance. No prorated refunds are issued for partial months; your service and billing run until the last day of the confirmed cancellation date.

Do I need to return the router?

If you rented the router from Telekom (Speedport or similar) it must be returned within a specified period after service ends — Telekom will include a prepaid return label with the cancellation confirmation. Purchased routers are yours to keep. Failure to return a rented device results in a charge of up to €70.

Can I reactivate service after canceling?

There is no reactivation of the old contract. If you change your mind you must sign up for a new contract (subject to current pricing and availability at your address). Any promotional rate from the original contract will not carry over.

Go to the cancellation portal

Navigate to https://www.telekom.de/hilfe/kuendigung. The page immediately checks whether you are logged in and redirects to the Telekom ID login screen if you are not.

Log in with your Telekom ID

Enter your Telekom ID (email address) and password on the login page at accounts.login.idm.telekom.com. If you have forgotten your credentials, click 'Passwort vergessen?' to reset. After login you are redirected back to the cancellation page.

Select the contract to cancel

Once logged in, your active contracts are listed. Identify the Glasfaser / MagentaZuhause fiber internet contract and click 'Vertrag kündigen' next to it. Alternatively, navigate via the Kundencenter menu to 'Meine Verträge' (under 'Service') and select 'Vertrag kündigen' from there.

Choose the cancellation type

Select one of two options: 'Kündigung zum Ende der Vertragslaufzeit' (standard termination at contract end) or 'Kündigung aus besonderen Gründen' (extraordinary termination for special circumstances such as relocation, death, or moving abroad). For standard fiber contracts, choose the first option.

Enter cancellation details

Fill in all fields marked with an asterisk (*): your phone/line number (Rufnummer), customer number (Kundennummer, found on any Telekom invoice), desired cancellation date, and optionally a reason. The system will calculate the earliest legally permissible termination date based on your contract end date and the 1-month notice period.

Review and submit

A summary page shows the contract, the effective cancellation date, and your personal details. Confirm all information is correct, then click 'Kündigung absenden' (Submit cancellation) or 'Senden' to finalize.

Save the confirmation

Telekom displays an on-screen confirmation with a reference number and sends a confirmation email to your registered address. Download or screenshot the confirmation as proof. Equipment return instructions (for rented routers) are included in the email.
