Turn off AutoPilot (if enabled)
Before canceling, disable AutoPilot for any pay schedules: click your profile avatar → 'Pay' → 'Settings' → scroll to 'Pay Schedule' → click 'Edit' next to AutoPilot → toggle it off → click 'Save'. Also ensure no payroll is currently in progress (any submitted payroll with a future check date must complete first).
Open Plan & Billing
In the bottom-left corner of the Gusto dashboard, click your company name. On the page that opens, select 'Plan & billing'.
Click 'Cancel account'
Under the 'Gusto billing' section, click the 'Cancel account' button.
Select cancellation reason
Choose a reason for canceling from the dropdown and optionally provide additional feedback, then continue.
Choose tax filing option
Select how outstanding tax payments and filings will be handled: either let Gusto manage them or indicate you will manage them yourself.
Confirm with company name
Type your company name exactly as displayed above the text box (copy-paste recommended) to confirm cancellation.
Check all acknowledgement boxes
Review and check all acknowledgement checkboxes presented (covering billing, data access, tax account responsibility, etc.).
Click 'Cancel account'
Click the final 'Cancel account' button. Gusto may follow up via email or phone before the cancellation is fully processed. Respond promptly to complete it. If you have a Workers' Comp policy or Gusto-managed benefits, those must be canceled separately.
