Export your log data
Before cancelling, export all account data from the Papertrail dashboard. Log access is cut off once the subscription ends — archives are downloadable as text files from Amazon S3.
Verify you have the right permissions
Confirm you are an account Owner or Administrator. Only users with the 'Change plans and payment' permission can manage billing and initiate cancellations.
Check your renewal date
Note your subscription renewal date. Papertrail requires at least 60 days' written notice before the end of your current subscription term — missing this window means you'll be charged for another full cycle.

Request cancellation in writing
In your message, state your account name and explicitly request cancellation at the end of your current subscription period. No self-serve cancel button exists in the dashboard.
Receive confirmation
Papertrail support will confirm and schedule your subscription to terminate at the end of the billing period. There is no immediate mid-cycle cancellation.
Optional: Deactivate individual sub-accounts
If you manage multiple sub-accounts, deactivate each one separately: click the Settings cog (bottom left of the UI) > click 'Deactivate account' > click 'Continue with deactivation' > type YES in the confirmation box > click 'Deactivate now'.
