When does my access end after cancellation?

Access is terminated immediately the moment you click the final 'Delete Account' button. There is no grace period or continued access through the end of a billing cycle.

Can I get a refund after cancelling?

Help Scout offers a 30-day money-back guarantee on your first payment (monthly or annual). Outside that window, no refunds or pro-rated credits are issued for unused time on monthly or annual plans.

What happens to my data after I cancel?

All account data — conversations, customers, and Docs articles — is permanently deleted 60 days after cancellation. Export everything you need before clicking 'Delete Account'.

Can I reactivate my account after cancelling?

Help Scout does not document a self-serve reactivation path. The cancellation is treated as permanent with no turning back, so you would need to contact support to explore options before the 60-day data deletion window closes.

Who is allowed to cancel the account?

Only the Account Owner can delete the Help Scout account. Administrators do not have permission to cancel, even with full admin rights.

How do I export my conversations before cancelling?

Conversation history cannot be bulk-exported from within the app — it requires the Help Scout Inbox API. Reports (CSV/XLSX) can be exported directly from the app. You can also contact Help Scout support to request a customer list CSV with names and emails.

Export your data first

Before cancelling, export any data you need. Reports can be exported as CSV/XLSX from within the app. For conversation history and Docs articles, use the Inbox API and Docs API respectively. You can also contact Help Scout support to request a customer CSV (names and emails).

Open account menu

Log in to your Help Scout account at app.helpscout.com. Click your avatar or initials in the top-right corner of the navigation bar to open the account dropdown menu.

Go to Your Plan

Select 'Your Plan' from the dropdown menu. This takes you to your current subscription details page.

Click 'Manage your plan' (contact-based plans only)

If you are on a contact-based plan, click the 'Manage your plan' button on the Plan page before proceeding. User-based plan subscribers (Standard, Plus, Pro) can skip this step.

Click 'Delete Account'

Scroll to the bottom of the Plan page and click the red 'Delete Account' link. Note: only the Account Owner can perform this action — administrators do not have this permission.

Select a cancellation reason

An exit survey appears asking you to choose a cancellation reason (e.g. 'Too expensive', 'Missing features'). Select the reason that applies and proceed.

Confirm deletion

Click the red 'Delete Account' confirmation button. The UI warns: 'Your account will be completely inaccessible as soon as you click this button.' Cancellation is immediate and irreversible.
