Can I still use my account after requesting closure?

If you downgraded your paid plan, you retain paid benefits until the end of the current billing month, then revert to the free tier. Once you submit a full account closure request, Lunar processes it within 14 business days — avoid using the account during this period.

Will I get a refund for unused days on my subscription?

No. Lunar does not refund unused days in the current billing period. A 14-day withdrawal right applies to new paid plan subscribers, but it expires if you have already activated plan-exclusive benefits such as ordering a metal card or creating extra accounts.

Can I reopen my Lunar account after closing it?

Yes. You can reapply through the standard Lunar app application process. Lunar typically responds within a few days of the new application.

What happens to my money when I close my account?

You must transfer all funds to another bank account yourself before requesting closure. Lunar will not close an account with a positive balance — you must drain it first.

What happens to my personal data after account closure?

Lunar retains your data for as long as required by applicable financial regulations. As a licensed bank, regulatory and legal compliance periods apply, so data is not immediately deleted upon closure. You retain GDPR rights during this period.

Can I cancel just my Betalingsservice direct debit agreements without closing my account?

Yes. In the app, tap the Explorer tab, then 'Betalingsservice', select the agreement, and tap 'Cancel', then confirm with 'Cancel agreement'. This only works outside the payment window (after the 7th of the month).

Complete pre-closure checklist

Before closing, you must: transfer all funds out of your account, move your NemKonto and Betalingsservice (BS) agreements to another bank, sell any Lunar Block crypto/invest holdings, and cancel your paid subscription plan if active.

Cancel paid subscription (if applicable)

Open the Lunar app and tap the profile icon in the upper left corner. Tap 'Your plan', then 'View plan'. Select the free/basic plan from the top menu and tap 'Select plan'. Downgrade takes effect at the end of the current calendar month.

Open in-app support chat

Tap the profile icon (upper left corner showing your initials or photo), then tap 'Help and Support', then tap 'Message' to open the chat with customer support.

Request account closure in writing

Send a written message to customer support stating you want to close your account. Written confirmation is required — Lunar will not process closure without it. Alternatively, email Lunar support via lunar.app/en/personal/contact.

Wait for confirmation

Lunar customer support processes the account closure request. Expect up to 14 business days for completion. You will receive confirmation once the account is fully closed.
