Yes, service continues until the number is formally deactivated, which takes up to 7 days from the verified request. After deactivation, the number is held for 90 days before being recycled.

Will I get a refund after cancelling?

Prepaid customers forfeit any unused balance — there are no refunds. Postpaid customers with a security deposit will receive it back within 60 days of disconnection. If Airtel delays beyond 60 days, TRAI regulations require them to pay 10% per annum interest on the deposit.

Can I reactivate my number after cancellation?

You can request reactivation within 90 days of deactivation by visiting an Airtel Store with valid ID. After 90 days, the number is recycled and permanently released — reactivation is no longer possible.

Can I keep my number and switch to another carrier?

Yes, via Mobile Number Portability (MNP). Send an SMS: PORT [your 10-digit number] to 1900. You will receive a Unique Porting Code (UPC) valid for 4 days. Take it to your new operator's store with ID and address proof to complete the switch. The porting fee is Rs. 6.46 (often waived). All outstanding postpaid dues must be cleared before porting is approved.

The SIM will auto-deactivate once the validity period of your last recharge expires. The number is then held by Airtel for 90 days and subsequently recycled. Any remaining prepaid balance is forfeited.

Open the Airtel Thanks app on your phone and log in with your registered Airtel mobile number.

Navigate to Help

Tap the 'Help' icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen, then select your postpaid connection from the listed accounts.

Raise a Disconnection Request

Follow the path: Mobile → Postpaid → Account and Billing → Others → Raise Request. In the message field, type that you want permanent disconnection of your mobile connection.

Submit the Request

Tap 'Submit' to file the disconnection request. You will receive a reference/ticket number — note it down.

Clear Outstanding Dues

Airtel will call you within 24–48 hours for identity verification. During this mandatory call, settle any pending bill amount. Cancellation will not proceed if dues remain unpaid.

Confirm Cancellation and Get Termination Number

During the verification callback, confirm you want permanent disconnection. Ask the agent for a 'Service Termination Number' as your official reference that the request is recorded.

Wait for Deactivation

Your number will be deactivated within 7 days of the verified request. The number remains registered in Airtel's system for 90 days before being recycled.
