When does my coverage end after I cancel?

For most policies (home, car, boat, pet), coverage continues until the next annual renewal date — cancellation does not take effect immediately mid-term. Personal insurance (health, life, accident) can be terminated at any time during the coverage period.

Will I receive a refund for unused premium?

Yes. If you pay via autogiro (direct debit), the refund is processed at the next monthly deduction cycle. If you pay by e-invoice or paper invoice, IF refunds the unused portion within 3–5 business days to the registered bank account.

Is there a cooling-off period after purchasing a new policy?

Yes. You have 14 days from the purchase date to cancel a new policy (30 days for life insurance). IF will refund the premium minus any costs for coverage already used during that period.

What happens to my car insurance if I sell my vehicle?

If you sell a registered vehicle and transfer ownership via Transportstyrelsen (the Swedish Transport Agency), your car insurance is automatically cancelled from the date of the ownership transfer — no action is needed on your part.

Can I reactivate my insurance after cancelling?

You can apply for a new policy at any time on if.se. However, for health and pet insurance, any pre-existing conditions that arose since your original policy may be excluded from the new policy, so consider this before cancelling.

Can someone else cancel on my behalf?

Yes, with a signed power of attorney (fullmakt). IF provides a standard form at if.se/globalassets/se/dokument/privat/fullmakt-uppsagning.pdf that can be downloaded, signed, and submitted to authorise another person to cancel on your behalf.

Log in to Mina sidor

If you cannot cancel via Mina sidor (or for pet, boat, or leisure home insurance), go to if.se/privat/kundservice/mejla-oss/uppsagning-av-forsakring. Fill in the form with: insurance type, cancellation reason, your name, email, policy number, and desired cancellation date, then submit.

Personal insurance: Call IF directly

Personal insurance (health, accident, life, child) cannot be cancelled online — you must call IF at 0770-770 470 during business hours. State you want to 'säga upp' (terminate) your policy and provide your policy number.

Await confirmation

IF will send a written confirmation once the cancellation is processed. Refunds for prepaid premiums are returned via your original payment method (autogiro account or invoice) within 3–5 business days.
