When your licence expires, the SEO Spider returns to the restricted free version. Previously saved crawls cannot be opened, and configuration options set under the paid version become unavailable. Your data files remain on your computer but cannot be accessed without a valid licence.

Can I transfer my licence to someone else?

Go to https://www.screamingfrog.co.uk/login/ and enter your username/email and password, then click 'Log In'. If you've forgotten your password, use the 'Lost password?' link.

Check if auto-renewal is enabled

Note: Screaming Frog licences do NOT auto-renew by default — they simply expire. Auto-renewal is only active if you explicitly opted in at purchase. If you did not opt in, no action is needed; your licence will expire at its end date.

Navigate to the Subscriptions section

Once logged in, go to 'My Account' and click on the 'Subscriptions' section. This is only present if you enabled auto-renewal at purchase.

Cancel auto-renewal

In the 'Subscriptions' section, locate your active subscription and select the option to cancel auto-renewal. Confirm the cancellation when prompted. Your licence will remain active until its current expiry date.

Verify cancellation

Check that auto-renewal no longer shows as active under 'Subscriptions'. You will retain full access to all paid features until the licence expiry date, after which the tool reverts automatically to the free version (500 URL crawl limit).
