Review your contract and ETF
Log in to myadt.com, go to 'My Account' → 'Billing & Payments' to check your contract end date and remaining months. If cancelling early, ADT charges 75% of remaining monthly fees as an early termination fee (ETF). Calculate your potential ETF before calling.
Try online cancellation (online purchases only)
If you originally purchased your ADT system online at adt.com, log in to myadt.com, navigate to 'Account Settings', and look for the 'Cancel Subscription' button. Fill out the cancellation form. If you do not see this option, your system was not purchased online and you must call.
Call ADT Customer Service at 800-238-2727
For all non-online purchases (the majority of customers), phone cancellation is the only option. Call 800-238-2727 and say 'cancel my service' when prompted. Ask to be transferred to the 'Customer Loyalty' or 'Cancellation' department. Have your account number, PIN/passcode, and service address ready.
Navigate retention offers
The representative will offer discounts (e.g., 3–6 months free monitoring), a service pause/holiday hold, or a lower monitoring tier. Clearly state: 'I want to cancel my service entirely, please do not transfer me or offer alternatives.' You may need to repeat this multiple times.
Confirm final billing and ETF amount
Ask the agent to confirm: (1) exact ETF amount if applicable, (2) your final billing date, (3) whether any prorated refund applies, and (4) a cancellation confirmation number. Do not hang up without receiving a confirmation number.
Send written cancellation notice (recommended)
For legal protection, also send a certified letter to: ADT Security Services, Attn: Cancellation, 1501 Yamato Rd, Boca Raton, FL 33431. Use USPS Certified Mail with Return Receipt. Include your name, account number, service address, and requested cancellation date. This creates a paper trail if ADT continues to bill you.
Return equipment if required
ADT will mail a prepaid return box for any leased equipment. Pack and ship it promptly to avoid unreturned equipment charges. Keep the tracking number as proof of return.
