What happens to my data when I close my Postmark account?

All data — email history, sender signatures, servers, API tokens, and billing information — is permanently and immediately deleted the moment you confirm closure. There is no grace period, no backup provided, and no data export step in the cancellation flow.

Will I get a refund for the unused portion of my billing period?

No. Postmark does not issue refunds for unused monthly email credits. Monthly plans are prepaid. Any overages from the current billing cycle are charged at the time of cancellation. Legacy credits-based accounts may be eligible for a first-purchase refund within 90 days if credits are unused.

Can I reactivate my account after closing it?

No. Because all account data is deleted immediately upon closure, reactivation is not possible. You would need to create a brand-new account from scratch. If you want to keep the option to resume later, downgrade to the free plan instead of closing the account.

Is there a free option instead of cancelling?

Yes. Postmark offers a free plan of 100 emails per month intended for development and testing. Downgrading to this plan stops all charges while keeping your API tokens, webhooks, servers, and all account settings intact. You can upgrade back to a paid plan at any time via Plans & Add-ons.

I don't see the 'Close account' button — why?

The cancellation option is only visible to the Account Owner. If you are logged in as a team member or admin, you will not see it. If the original Account Owner has left your organization, contact support@postmarkapp.com for assistance.

What if I only need to pause sending emails temporarily?

Downgrade to the free plan (100 emails/month) rather than closing your account. This effectively pauses billing with no time limit and preserves all your account configuration, so you can resume a paid plan whenever needed.

Log in as Account Owner

Go to postmarkapp.com and log in. Only the Account Owner role can cancel — team members and admins do not see the cancellation option.

Open Account menu

Click 'Account' in the top navigation bar.

Go to Plans & Add-ons

Click 'Plans & Add-ons' from the Account menu.

Consider downgrading instead

Before cancelling, note that scrolling up shows a free plan ('100 emails per month - For development & testing' at $0/month) which preserves all API tokens, webhooks, servers, and settings. This is the recommended alternative to full closure.

Scroll to bottom of page

Scroll to the very bottom of the Plans & Add-ons page to find the account closure section.

Click 'Close account'

Click the 'Close account' button at the bottom of the page.

Enter your password

Enter your account password in the confirmation dialog to verify your identity.

Confirm closure

Click 'Close account' again to finalize. Cancellation is immediate — all data is permanently deleted instantly with no grace period.
