What happens to my investments when I close my IBKR account?

Log in to Account Management

Go to interactivebrokers.com and log in to Client Portal / Account Management.

Close All Open Positions

Navigate to your portfolio and close all open positions, options, and futures contracts. You cannot close an account with active positions.

Cancel Any Pending Orders

Make sure there are no pending orders. Go to 'Orders' and cancel any open or pending orders.

Withdraw All Funds

Go to 'Transfer & Pay' → 'Transfer Funds' → 'Withdraw Funds' and withdraw your entire cash balance to your bank account.

Submit Account Closure Request

Go to 'Settings' → 'Account Settings' → 'Close Account'. Complete the account closure form and submit. You'll receive a confirmation email from IBKR support.
