Can I still use Prefect after canceling my paid plan?

Yes. If you downgrade to the Hobby plan, you retain access to Prefect Cloud with free-tier limits (2 users, 1 workspace, up to 5 deployments). If you fully cancel and delete your account, access ends at the close of the current billing period.

Will I receive a refund when I cancel?

Prefect's self-serve plans are billed monthly and cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period — there are no pro-rated refunds for partial months. For Pro/Enterprise plans, refund terms depend on your contract; contact help@prefect.io or legal@prefect.io.

How do I reactivate my subscription after canceling?

You can re-subscribe at any time by logging back into app.prefect.cloud and upgrading your plan from Account Settings > Plan. Self-serve plans (Starter, Team) can be activated immediately with a credit card.

What happens to my data when I cancel?

Downgrading to Hobby retains your account and one workspace but removes excess workspaces and may delete data exceeding free-tier limits. Full account deletion removes all workspaces, deployments, flow run history, work pools, and automations permanently. Delete workspaces manually via Workspace Settings if you want immediate data removal.

How much notice do I need to give before my renewal date?

You must provide written cancellation notice before the end of your current monthly term to avoid being charged for the next month. Prefect recommends emailing help@prefect.io a few days before your renewal date to ensure processing in time.

Can I cancel via the API instead of email?

Yes, for programmatic cancellation there is a POST endpoint at https://api.prefect.cloud/api/billing/{account_id}/cancel_org_subscription that can be called with your API token. However, for most users the recommended method remains emailing help@prefect.io or using the billing UI to downgrade to Hobby.

Sign in to Prefect Cloud

Go to app.prefect.cloud and sign in with your account credentials.

Open Account Settings

Click your account name or avatar in the top-left sidebar navigation to open the account menu, then select 'Account Settings'.

Navigate to Plan & Billing

In Account Settings, look for the 'Plan' or 'Billing' section in the left sidebar. This shows your current plan tier and billing details.

Downgrade to Hobby (Free) or initiate cancellation

If on a self-serve plan (Starter or Team), click 'Downgrade' to switch to the Hobby (free) plan, which cancels billing. If no UI downgrade option is available, or if you are on a Pro or Enterprise plan, proceed to email cancellation.

Email help@prefect.io to cancel

Send an email to help@prefect.io with subject 'Cancel Prefect Cloud subscription'. Include: your account ID or account URL (from the browser address bar), confirmation that you want to cancel, your desired effective date, and confirmation that you are the account billing owner.

Optionally delete workspaces before cancellation

If you want to remove your data immediately rather than waiting for support to process the cancellation, go to Settings > Workspace Settings and use the three-dot menu (⋮) in the upper right to select 'Delete Workspace' for each workspace.

Await confirmation

Prefect support will confirm the cancellation via email. Cancellations for self-serve plans take effect at the end of the current billing period.
