Do I lose access to Vault immediately after deleting my cluster?

Yes. Cluster access is cut off immediately upon deletion. Make sure to export or back up any secrets and configurations before initiating the deletion process.

Can I recover my data after cancellation?

Production-tier HCP Vault Dedicated clusters can be restored within 30 days of deletion by opening a support ticket at support.hashicorp.com with your Organization ID, target HVN, and desired snapshot. Development-tier clusters cannot be restored. After 30 days, data is permanently deleted.

Will I receive a refund after cancelling?

HashiCorp does not publicly document a refund policy for HCP PAYG plans. You are charged for usage already consumed through the end of the billing month, so you may receive one final invoice after deletion. For Enterprise contracts, refund terms are governed by the specific contract agreement.

How do I reactivate my account after cancellation?

For HCP PAYG, you can create a new HCP organization and add a payment method to start fresh. If you deleted a production cluster within the last 30 days, open a support ticket to request cluster restoration instead of creating a new account. For Vault Enterprise, contact HashiCorp Sales to initiate a new contract.

What happens to my billing after I delete all resources?

Billing stops for deleted resources immediately, but charges are assessed on the 1st of the following month. You will likely receive one final invoice covering usage up to the deletion date. After the support ticket confirms full account closure, no further charges are made.

Can I cancel a Vault Enterprise (self-managed) license the same way?

No. Vault Enterprise is sold via annual contracts and cannot be cancelled through the HCP Portal. You must contact your HashiCorp Technical Account Manager or Sales representative directly. Enterprise licenses issued after September 2025 cause Vault to become inoperable 60 days after expiration.

Delete all Vault Dedicated clusters

Log in to the HCP Portal at portal.cloud.hashicorp.com. Navigate to 'Vault clusters' in the left-hand navigation. Select each cluster, go to its Overview page, click the 'Manage' button (top right), then select 'Delete Cluster' from the dropdown. Type DELETE (case-sensitive) in the confirmation box and click 'Delete'. Repeat for every cluster.

Delete all other HCP resources

Using the same portal, delete all Consul clusters, Packer registries, and Vault Secrets apps using the same Manage → Delete flow on each resource's overview page. Wait for each deletion to complete before proceeding.

Delete all HashiCorp Virtual Networks (HVNs)

In the HCP Portal left navigation, go to 'Virtual Networks'. Delete each HVN using its settings or 'Manage' menu. HVNs cannot be deleted while clusters are still attached, so this must be done after all clusters are removed.

Delete all Projects (except the default)

Navigate to 'Projects' in the HCP Portal. Delete any extra projects you have created. You cannot delete the default project directly — it will be removed when the account is closed.

Remove all other users from the organization

Go to 'IAM' (Identity and Access Management) in the HCP Portal. Remove every member except the Organization Owner. SSO must also be disabled or deleted before account closure is possible.

Pay any outstanding invoices

Go to 'Billing' in the HCP Portal and confirm there are no unpaid invoices. Outstanding balances must be cleared before HashiCorp Support will process the account deletion.

Submit account deletion support ticket

Go to support.hashicorp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new. Select 'HashiCorp Cloud Platform' as the product and 'Account and User Management' as the category. Request full HCP account deletion and include your Organization ID. HashiCorp Support Engineering processes the request and confirms closure.
