Will I get a refund when I delete my Static Web App?

Azure Static Web Apps Standard plan is billed hourly on a pay-as-you-go basis — there is no subscription fee. You stop being charged the moment you delete or downgrade, so no prorated refund is needed for what you already used.

What happens to my data when I delete the resource?

The Static Web App resource, hosted files, configuration, and deployment history are all removed. If you cancel your entire Azure subscription, Microsoft retains your data for 30–90 days before permanently deleting it, during which you are not charged.

Can I reactivate or redeploy after deletion?

If you only deleted the Static Web App resource (not your Azure subscription), you can create a new app at any time and redeploy. If you cancelled your entire Azure subscription, you can reactivate it in the Azure portal within 90 days before it is permanently deleted.

Can I stop billing without deleting the app?

Yes. Navigate to your Static Web App in the portal, go to Settings → Hosting plan in the left sidebar, select 'Free', and click Save. This stops all billing immediately while keeping the app running. You can only downgrade if you are not using Standard-only features like private endpoints or custom authentication.

Why can't I delete my Static Web App?

Common causes include: (1) a resource Lock is applied — go to the app's left menu, click 'Locks', and remove any Delete locks; (2) you may be using the wrong command if using CLI — use 'az staticwebapp delete' or 'Remove-AzStaticWebApp', not the regular web app commands.

Does deleting the app release my custom domain?

Deleting the resource releases the domain from Azure Static Web Apps, but you still need to manually remove the DNS records from your DNS provider or Azure DNS zone.

Sign in to Azure Portal

Go to https://portal.azure.com/ and sign in with your Microsoft account.

Locate your Static Web App

In the top search bar, type your Static Web App name and select it from results — or navigate to the URL https://portal.azure.com/#browse/Microsoft.Web%2FstaticSites to see all your Static Web Apps listed.

Open the app Overview page

Click on your Static Web App to open its resource page. You will land on the Overview tab by default.

Click Delete

At the top of the Overview page, click the 'Delete' button in the toolbar. A confirmation dialog will appear asking you to confirm deletion.

Confirm deletion

In the confirmation dialog, type the name of the resource exactly as shown to confirm. Then click 'Delete' (or 'Yes') to permanently remove the Static Web App.

Remove GitHub Actions workflow (if applicable)

Deleting the Azure resource does NOT remove the GitHub Actions workflow file. Manually delete the file at .github/workflows/*.yml in your repository to stop automated builds from running.
