Is Nest Secure still available or can I start a new subscription?

No. Google stopped selling Nest Secure hardware in October 2020 and permanently shut down all cloud services, including the companion app and cellular backup subscriptions, on April 8, 2024. The product is fully discontinued and no new subscriptions are possible.

What happened to my Nest Secure cellular backup subscription?

Google automatically canceled all active Nest Secure cellular backup subscriptions when the service ended on April 8, 2024. You should not have been charged after that date. If you were, contact Google Support or dispute the charge with your bank.

Am I eligible for a refund after the shutdown?

Google offered affected users either a free ADT alarm system to replace Nest Secure, or a $200 Google Store credit. If you did not receive either offer and were charged after April 8, 2024, contact Google Support at support.google.com/googlenest to request a refund.

Can I reactivate Nest Secure or restore my subscription?

No. The service infrastructure has been permanently decommissioned. Nest Secure devices can no longer connect to cloud services, and the Google Home or Nest app will not recognize them. Reactivation is not possible.

What should I do with my Nest Secure hardware?

Google offered a free recycling program: their third-party recycling partner sends a postage-paid shipping label to your registered email. Contact Google Support to request a recycling label if you have not already received one.

Will canceling Nest Secure affect my other Google or Nest subscriptions?

No. Nest Secure was a separate product from Nest Aware (camera video history). Canceling or having Nest Secure canceled does not affect any Nest Aware or Google Home Premium subscriptions you may have for cameras or other devices.

Note: Nest Secure service has ended

Google permanently shut down all Nest Secure cloud services on April 8, 2024. The system no longer connects to the internet, and all active cellular backup subscriptions were automatically canceled by Google at that time. If you are still seeing charges, proceed to the next steps.

Check your billing source

Determine where your subscription was billed. Open your Google account at myaccount.google.com, click 'Payments & subscriptions' in the left menu, then select 'Subscriptions'. Look for any active Nest Secure or Nest Aware entry. Alternatively, check your Google Store order history at store.google.com/orders.

Cancel via Google Store (if applicable)

If the subscription appears under Google Store, go to store.google.com, sign in, click your profile icon → 'Orders & subscriptions' → 'Subscriptions'. Select the Nest Secure subscription and click 'Cancel subscription', then confirm in the dialog.

Cancel via Google Home app (if applicable)

Open the Google Home app on your phone. Tap your profile icon (top right) → 'Payments & subscriptions'. Select the Nest Secure or Nest Aware plan, tap 'Cancel subscription', and follow the on-screen prompts to confirm cancellation.

Contact Google Support for unresolved charges

If the subscription does not appear in any of the above locations but you are still being charged, go to support.google.com/googlenest, click 'Contact us', and select the billing/subscription issue category. Explain that Nest Secure has been discontinued and request an immediate cancellation and refund of any post-shutdown charges.

Dispute charge with your bank if needed

If Google Support cannot resolve the billing issue within 5–7 business days, contact your bank or credit card provider to dispute the charge. Reference the April 8, 2024 shutdown date as evidence that the service was no longer being rendered.
