When do I need to submit my cancellation to avoid auto-renewal?

Agila contracts have a 12-month minimum term and renew automatically each year. You must submit your cancellation at least 4 weeks (vier Wochen) before your contract renewal date. For example, if your contract started on June 12, your cancellation must be received by May 12 at the latest.

Can I cancel immediately if my pet has died or I've given it away?

Yes. If your pet has died ('Tier verstorben') or been surrendered ('Tier abgegeben'), the standard notice period does not apply. The contract ends at the end of the current contract month once Agila receives your written notification. Any prepaid premiums for the remaining months are typically refunded.

Can I cancel if Agila raises my premium?

Yes. If Agila increases your premium, you have a special cancellation right (Sonderkündigungsrecht). You must exercise this within 1 month of receiving the premium adjustment letter, and the cancellation takes effect at the date the increase would have applied.

Will I get a refund for unused months?

In the case of early termination due to pet death or surrender, premiums paid in advance for the remaining portion of the current contract month are generally refunded. Standard cancellations at the contract end date do not result in a refund since coverage simply stops at renewal.

Where can I find my policy number?

Your policy number (Versicherungsnummer) appears on your insurance certificate (Versicherungsschein), on invoices and premium notices, in confirmation emails from Agila, and within the Agila customer app.

Can I cancel Agila online with a single click?

No. Agila requires cancellation in writing (Schriftform). You can submit via email (info@agila.de), fax (0511 71280-200), the online contact form at kontakt.agila.de, or by post. There is no one-click cancellation button in the customer portal or app.

Download the cancellation form

Visit https://www.agila.de/kuendigung (redirects to the Agila contact portal) or go directly to the forms page at https://www.agila.de/service/allgemeine-informationen/antraege-formulare-bedingungen. Download the official PDF cancellation form 'Kündigungsformular' (updated December 2025).

Fill in your personal details

Complete the form fields: Name (Vorname, Nachname), Straße/Hausnummer, PLZ/Ort, Telefonnummer (tagsüber), E-Mail-Adresse, Geburtsdatum, and your policy number (Versicherungsnummer — found on your insurance certificate, invoices, or in the Agila app).

Enter your pet's details

Fill in: Name des Tieres (pet's name), Tätowier- oder Chip-Nr. (tattoo or chip number), Rasse (breed), and Geburtsdatum (date of birth of pet).

Select the cancellation reason

Check the appropriate reason checkbox: 'Fristgerechte Kündigung' (standard on-time cancellation at contract end), 'Tier verstorben' (pet died), 'Tier abgegeben' (pet surrendered), 'Widerruf' (revocation within withdrawal period), 'Versicherungsnehmer verstorben' (policyholder deceased), or 'Sonstiges' (other — use the free-text fields).

Add your bank details and sign

Enter your bank account details (Kontoinhaber, Name des Geldinstituts, BIC, IBAN) for any refund of prepaid premiums. Sign the completed form.

Submit the cancellation

Send the signed form via email to info@agila.de, fax to 0511 71280-200, or by post to AGILA Haustierversicherung AG, Breite Str. 6–8, 30159 Hannover. For email, attach the PDF. For post, use registered mail (Einschreiben mit Rückschein) to have proof of delivery. Alternatively, submit via the online contact form at https://kontakt.agila.de/hc/de/requests/new?ticket_form_id.

Request written confirmation

In your email or cover letter, explicitly request a written confirmation with the exact termination date: 'Bitte bestätigen Sie mir die Kündigung schriftlich unter Angabe des Kündigungstermins.' Also include a revocation of your SEPA direct debit mandate if applicable.
