Can I get a refund after closing my Google Cloud billing account?

Generally no. Google Cloud uses consumption-based billing, so you are only charged for what you used. There are no refunds for unused committed-use discounts or prepaid credits — prepay credits are forfeited upon account closure. You will receive one final bill covering usage accrued before closure.

All linked projects are suspended immediately when you close the billing account. Google typically provides a ~30-day grace period during which you can reopen the account and recover your data. Sign in to Google Cloud Console

Go to console.cloud.google.com and sign in with the Google account that owns the billing profile you want to close. You must have the 'Billing Account Administrator' role — Project Owner alone is not sufficient (the 'Close Billing Account' button will be greyed out otherwise).

Open the Navigation Menu and go to Billing

Click the Navigation Menu icon (three horizontal lines, top-left corner of the console). Scroll down the menu and click 'Billing'.

Select the billing account to close

If you have multiple Cloud Billing accounts, a dropdown or list will appear. Select the specific billing account you want to close.

Open Account Management

In the left sidebar of the Billing section, click 'Account Management' (near the bottom of the sidebar list).

Click 'Close Billing Account'

At the top of the Account Management page, click the 'Close Billing Account' button. Google will display a warning dialog explaining that all services across all linked projects will be immediately suspended and data may be permanently deleted after approximately 30 days.

Review warnings and confirm closure

Read the warning about service shutdown and data loss. Type the confirmation text (e.g., 'Close') in the input field to verify your intent, then click the confirmation button to finalize closure.
