Which phones support eSIM in 2026?

eSIM compatibility in 2026 is broad among flagship phones from Apple, Google, and Samsung but still patchy among sub-flagship Android devices. This guide lists every model that the manufacturer's own documentation confirms supports eSIM, plus the regional eSIM-only models that have no physical SIM tray. Every claim points at the manufacturer's official compatibility page — Apple at support.apple.com, Google at support.google.com, and Samsung at samsung.com/support. All three pages were last accessed 2026-04-30.

iPhone eSIM compatibility (full list)

Per Apple's official documentation at support.apple.com/en-us/118569, iPhone XS (2018) and every later iPhone supports eSIM. The full eSIM-supporting iPhone list: iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 15 series, iPhone 16 series (16e, 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max), and iPhone 17 series (17e, 17, Air, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max). iPhone 13 and later support dual-SIM with two eSIMs in addition to the physical-SIM-plus-eSIM configuration. Older iPhones (iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus, SE 1st gen, 7, 7 Plus, 6s, 6, etc.) do not support eSIM — they only accept a physical nano-SIM.

iPhones that are eSIM-only (no physical SIM tray)

Some iPhone models sold in specific regions have no physical SIM tray — they accept only eSIM. Per Apple's documentation: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max sold in the United States are eSIM-only. iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max sold in the United States are eSIM-only. iPhone 16e, iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max purchased in the United States are eSIM-only. iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max purchased in the United States, US Virgin Islands, Canada, Mexico, Japan, Guam, United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, and Oman are eSIM-only. The same iPhone models sold outside those regions retain a physical nano-SIM tray alongside eSIM support.

iPad eSIM compatibility

Per Apple's documentation, iPad Pro 13-inch (M4, M5) Wi-Fi + Cellular and newer iPad Air models with M2, M3, or M4 chips support eSIM exclusively in the US — no physical SIM tray. iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd through 6th generation Wi-Fi + Cellular and later generations support both eSIM and physical SIM. Older Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad models from 2018 onwards generally support eSIM alongside the physical SIM. The Apple Watch Series 3 and later support eSIM for their own cellular plan, separate from the iPhone's lines.

Google Pixel eSIM compatibility

Per Google's official Pixel documentation at support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/9449293, Pixel 3a and every later Pixel supports eSIM. The full eSIM-supporting Pixel list: Pixel 3a, Pixel 3a XL, Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL, Pixel 4a, Pixel 4a 5G, Pixel 5, Pixel 5a, Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6a, Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 8a, Pixel 9 series, and Pixel 10 series. Pixel 4a (5G) and later support 5G in dual-SIM mode. Pixel 7 and later support two simultaneous eSIM profiles. Pixel 8a and later support simultaneous calls on both SIMs. Pixel 10 and later (except Pixel 10 Pro Fold) are eSIM-only.

Samsung Galaxy eSIM compatibility

Per Samsung's official compatibility page at samsung.com/au/support/mobile-devices/esim-compatibility, the eSIM-supporting Galaxy lineup includes: S series — Galaxy S20, S20+, S20 Ultra, S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, S22, S22+, S22 Ultra, S23, S23+, S23 Ultra, S23 FE, S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, S24 FE, S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge, S25 FE; Z series foldables — Galaxy Fold, Z Flip, Z Flip 5G, Z Fold2, Z Fold3 / Flip3, Z Fold4 / Flip4, Z Fold5 / Flip5, Z Fold6 / Flip6, Z Fold7 / Flip7, Flip7 FE; Note series — Note 20. Samsung notes that eSIM service availability depends on the specific country and carrier, so the device-level compatibility does not guarantee service-level availability everywhere.

Why your eSIM-supporting phone might still not work

Hardware support is necessary but not sufficient. Three common reasons an eSIM-supporting phone does not accept a travel eSIM: (1) Carrier lock — the carrier has disabled eSIM on a phone bought on contract. The FCC's voluntary unlocking guidelines at fcc.gov/consumers/guides/cell-phone-unlocking say postpaid devices unlock once contract obligations are met; prepaid devices unlock no later than one year after activation. A formal 60-day unlock requirement was proposed (FCC 24-77, July 2024) but is not yet final rule. (2) Region-specific firmware — some Samsung and Xiaomi devices ship eSIM disabled in regions where the local market did not formally launch eSIM at retail. (3) Carrier whitelist — a small number of carriers maintain a whitelist of approved third-party eSIMs and reject installs from unlisted vendors.

How to check eSIM support on your specific phone

iOS: Settings → Cellular (or Mobile Data on UK English) → Add eSIM. If the option appears and is tappable, the device supports eSIM and the carrier has not disabled it. Android (Pixel): Settings → Network & internet → SIMs → Add SIM → Download a SIM instead. Android (Samsung): Settings → Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. If the relevant option is missing or grayed out, verify the model against the manufacturer's official compatibility list above; if the model is on the list but the option is missing, contact the carrier to request the device unlock.
