Can I still use Microsoft 365 apps after I cancel?

Yes. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period. After that date, Office apps enter read-only mode — you can view documents but cannot edit them — and OneDrive storage reverts to 5 GB.

Will I get a refund when I cancel?

If you cancel within 30 days of purchase or renewal you are eligible for a full refund. After 30 days, Microsoft does not issue refunds for the remaining billing period in most countries. Prorated refunds are available in Canada, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Denmark, Israel, South Korea, and Turkey regardless of when you cancel.

What happens to my OneDrive files after cancellation?

Your OneDrive storage cap drops to 5 GB. If you were using more than 5 GB, Microsoft gives you approximately 30 days to download or delete files before it begins removing the oldest ones. Download your files before the subscription ends to avoid data loss.

Can I reactivate my Microsoft 365 subscription after cancelling?

Yes. Go back to account.microsoft.com/services, find the expired subscription, and select 'Reactivate' or subscribe again. Your previous settings and files (if within the 30-day grace window) are typically restored.

What if I bought Microsoft 365 through the App Store, Google Play, or a retailer?

Microsoft cannot cancel third-party purchases. You must cancel directly through Apple App Store (Settings → Subscriptions), Google Play (Play Store → Subscriptions), or contact the retailer (e.g. Amazon) where you originally purchased the subscription.

Does cancelling remove Microsoft 365 from all my devices immediately?

No. Apps remain installed and functional until your subscription expiry date. After expiry, apps switch to reduced functionality mode (view-only). You can uninstall the apps manually at any time after cancellation.

Go to Services & Subscriptions

Open a browser and navigate to https://account.microsoft.com/services. Sign in with the Microsoft account used to purchase the Microsoft 365 subscription if prompted.

Locate your Microsoft 365 subscription

On the Services & subscriptions page, find your Microsoft 365 Personal, Family, or Business plan in the list of active subscriptions.

Click 'Manage'

Click the 'Manage' link next to your Microsoft 365 subscription. This opens the subscription management page showing billing details and options.

Select 'Cancel subscription'

On the subscription management page, click 'Cancel subscription' (may also appear as 'Upgrade or Cancel'). If you only see 'Turn on recurring billing', your subscription is already set to expire and no further action is needed.

Review what you'll lose

Microsoft displays a summary page listing what you will lose access to (Word, Excel, OneDrive storage reduction to 5 GB, etc.) along with a potential retention offer such as a discounted rate to stay. Review this page carefully.

Confirm cancellation

Select 'I don't want my subscription' (or 'Continue to cancel') to proceed past the retention offer screen. Do not select 'I want to keep my benefits' unless you wish to stay subscribed.

Cancellation confirmed

Microsoft displays a confirmation screen showing the date your subscription access ends (end of current billing period). You will also receive a confirmation email at your Microsoft account email address.
