How to Cancel AA (2026)
AA plans start from $0.00/month. Follow our 7-step guide to cancel your subscription in about 20 minutes — with tips to avoid retention offers.
Updated: April 2026
Log in to your AA account
Go to theaa.com and log in to your account. Navigate to 'Help & Support' in the main menu, then select 'Cancel your policy' or visit theaa.com/help-support/cancel-policy directly.
Decide: Stop auto-renewal vs. full cancellation
If you only want to prevent renewal, use the online 'Stop automatic renewal' form at theaa.com/help-support/stop-auto-renew and submit it. For a full mid-term cancellation, you must contact AA directly — there is no self-service cancel button in the account dashboard.
Contact AA by phone or live chat
Call the relevant number during business hours (Mon–Fri 8am–7pm, Sat 9am–5pm): Breakdown cover: 0343 316 4444 | Car insurance: 0370 160 0138 | Home insurance: 0370 606 1617. Alternatively, open 'Live Chat' on the AA website. State clearly: 'I want to cancel my membership/policy.'
Decline retention offers
The agent will typically offer a lower renewal price, a discounted plan, or a temporary suspension (90 days to 5 years). Decline firmly if you want to fully cancel. Say: 'No thank you, I'd like to proceed with cancellation.'
Confirm cancellation details and fees
Ask for confirmation of any cancellation fee (typically £32.50 for insurance) and whether a pro-rata refund applies. Outside the 14-day cooling-off period, refunds are usually not available for breakdown cover. Note any reference number given.
Request written confirmation
Ask the agent to send a cancellation confirmation email. If using recorded delivery letter instead, address it to The AA, Fanum House, Basing View, Basingstoke, Hampshire, RG21 4EA. Keep proof of postage.
Cancel your Direct Debit separately
Log in to your bank or contact your bank to cancel the Direct Debit or continuous payment authority to the AA. This prevents any further charges, especially if auto-renewal issues have been reported with online opt-outs failing.
