Go to GitHub Billing Settings
Sign in to GitHub, click your profile photo in the upper-right corner of any page, then click 'Settings' from the dropdown menu.
Open Billing and Licensing
In the left sidebar under the 'Access' section, click 'Billing and licensing'. This takes you to your billing overview at github.com/settings/billing.
View Additional Billing Details
On the Billing page, click 'Additional billing details' to expand the full plan management view showing your current plan.
Edit Your Current Plan
Under the 'Current plan' section, click the 'Edit' dropdown button next to your active paid plan (GitHub Pro or GitHub Advanced Security / Code Security add-on containing premium Dependabot features).
Select Downgrade or Cancel
From the Edit dropdown, click 'Downgrade to Free' (for GitHub Pro personal accounts) or 'Cancel subscription' (for GitHub Advanced Security / Code Security add-on). For organization-level Advanced Security, go to Organization Settings → Billing & plans → Licensing, find Advanced Security, and click 'Cancel subscription'.
Review Feature Loss Warning
GitHub displays a list of features you will lose access to after your current billing period ends. Read these carefully, including loss of Dependabot on Actions runners, auto-triage rules, and advanced security scanning (if on Advanced Security).
Confirm Cancellation
Click 'I understand, continue with downgrade' (personal accounts) or 'I understand, cancel Advanced Security' (org/enterprise Advanced Security) to finalize the cancellation. No further confirmation email is required.
